So, of all the horn systems at the show, you pick one of the worst sounding (it is pretty good for the money I will concede)…classic. The Kharma Orpheus system?? The electronics were seriously lacking in anything resembling realism. Zellaton?? Resolved, sure but nothing special otherwise…hardly registered on anyones radar because there wasn’t so much there, there.

There were some GREAT sounding horn systems at this show (Living Voice + Kondo being the pinnacle of any system I have ever heard for realism, and the Blumenhofer + Allnic system) that put to shame the systems you have mentioned. Particularly disappointing was the Marten + DarTZeel…for the money it was plain bad! The Raidho was pretty good but again failed to really grip and hold the attention.

To me, JV, your sonic compass is way off course and a natural sound is clearly not what you are after based on these recommendations…

Last time I saw, the title of your magazine was called “The Absolute Sound” and I would claim that you ignored in your ranking the one system that consistently got closest to that ideal. I didn’t realize you had become “The Absolute Sound for the best price point”.
It just seems clear to me you have a prediliction towards more conventional multi-driver speakers…most of which at this show sounded anything but realisitic.
I mean you put best sound at the show (cost-no-object) as the Zellaton system. Really?? No realism there I’m afraid. Some detail, a bit of dynamics but a pale shadow of the real thing that a few other systems took to much higher levels (in particular the LV + Kondo).
As to the Avantgarde, you will note that I agree it is good value for a horn system…something I could see owning for a hometheater system no problem.
Having lived for years with a professional violinist and attending dozens of her concerts and innumerable practice sessions, I can tell you that only one system could relatively accurately duplicate the sound of a real violin (forget orchestra…maybe quartet) and it wasn’t Zellaton, Marten, Estellon,
